Starting a blog can seem like a stressful, tedious task and I am here to help! You can start a blog in minutes. A lot of people spend most of their time on trying to figure out what topic they want to base their blog around. My first bit of advice is if you know you want to start a blog, just do it.

I originally started my blog to help inspire others who may be thinking about or in the process of joining the military. Since starting my blog, I’ve decided to expand and write about other big aspects of my life and beauty as well.

So, do you want to start a blog of your own? Here are five easy steps to get you started:

1. Purchase a Domain Name and Hosting

I started off with a free blog, which is great to start with BUT if you’re really serious about creating a blog and wanting your content to be seen I highly recommend you purchase hosting.

I started using SiteGround and I couldn’t be happier. It’s been super easy to navigate and they have a good customer service support team to help with any questions you may have. They also offer competitive startup pricing, especially for a new blogger.

Here’s a step by step to walk you through purchasing your hosting and domain through SiteGround:

The StartUp plan is perfect for you and includes everything you’ll need for your new blog. I recommend the StartUp plan, as it is more than enough to start a blog.
You can choose to buy a new domain, or sign up with an existing domain. If you don’t already have a domain, I suggest just buying one through SiteGround to make your life easier. When choosing a domain, don’t overthink or over stress- pick something meaningful to you, short and to the point. I chose “Blush n boots” for my blog name because I’ve been a makeup artist for eight years and I joined the military- Viola!: Blush n Boots.
Unlike many other hosting providers the advertised discount applies to any of the initial periods chosen during the sign up process- this means you lock in your price for the period you choose! (Note: the pricing in the screenshot above is for the GrowBig plan) I suggest choosing the 36 months of hosting to lock in the best price- then you’ll be set for the next 3 years!

2. SiteGround Installs WordPress for You!

No need to worry about installing WordPress, which will become the bread and butter of your blog. SiteGround installs WordPress for you. When you sign up with SiteGround you’ll receive a link in your email to log on to the site. Just goto the ‘My Accounts’ tab, then click the orange button that says ‘Go to cPanel’, then lastly under the category ‘Autoinstallers’ select the WordPress icon. Now all you have to do is pick a theme for your new blog!

3. Picking a Theme

Picking a theme is super easy- literally you click the button to install and apply to your blog.
As you can see, there are thousands of FREE themes to choose from.

4. Play Around with Your WordPress Dashboard

This step is crucial. Really take the time to explore your WordPress Dashboard and learn about all the tools available. Learn how to format your posts and upload photos. Also decide what you want in your sidebars and menu. You’ll end up tweaking it a couple handfuls of time before you publish your blog to the word.

5. Write Your First Post!

Now that you’re all set up and know your way around your WordPress dash, get to writing! Your first post doesn’t have to be perfect, just write. Get the hang of writing posts and get a good flow. Search Pinterest for blog post ideas if you can’t decide on a topic right away.

You are officially a blogger!

Writing can be hard at first, but don’t give up or quit on yourself. You will get the hang of it in no time. Blogging can be a life changer, and can even earn you some extra money. Be fearless and don’t hesitate to reach out if you have questions!
